Story - How The Mighty Fall 1

Description

The chained warrior looked up at the sounds of footsteps as a guard walked down the corridor and passed the cell door. The armor he wore marked him as a servant of Anubis, the fallen God's brother in name alone. It wasn't so long ago he stood beside them, worshiped with them, and ate beside them in the same palace home. Now, stripped of power, rank, and name and banished to the dungeon of the Temple of Fire, Xeno hung his head with a gentle growl. It was passed morning's meal and they'd again denied him food. He would have to wait several more hours for the kitchen scraps to be gathered before he would be allowed to eat. Scraps the servants even deemed unfit to put in their mouths.
He muttered and swore over the injustice and humiliation he felt, trying to move to a more comfortable position and, like the many attempts before, found the chains gave little room for adjustment from his submissively forced posture. This brought the guard to the cell door.
"I am under orders by Honoured Anubis himself to silence you forever if you keep uttering your foul oaths against them, demon!"
This brought a sneer to the former God's lips. "And you would come closer, human? Let me show you how vengeful my wrath can be."
Despite his bravado and the Jackal God's assurance that Xeno had been rendered harmless by the collective efforts of the remaining three Scions, the guard hesitated, hand on the sword belt at his side. He had no reluctance to cut out the warrior's tongue, but that would mean stepping closer to the creature who single-handedly destroyed three beings far powerful then a lone guard.
The mans pause for thought, made the ex-God smile. Even in his weakened state his actions of years before spoke louder then words. He knew those words were empty threats, but he found some smug sense of satisfaction watching the man squirm in his boots.
For a brief moment the two locked eyes as Xeno tried to work his own special brand of coercion on him. The man shivered, taking a nervous step away, tearing his gaze from the deep crimson orbs. "Enough, monster! You will not take my will!"
In response the warrior simply grunted, giving a twitch to the pair of antenna hanging from his head. As he feared all his gathered magics were truly stripped away. The fallen God of Earth couldn't so much as quake the pebbles at his knees, what hope did he have for bending the the mind of a simple human?
As the man fled for the outside world Xeno again dropped his head to his chest, finding his effort to look up taxing on his chained neck and shoulders. He knew it was only a matter of time before the reign of the Scions would fall. He would be the instrument of its destruction and he would regain the powers given to him by the Sky Herself and take back his place among the merciful Stars. It was only a matter of time. And, being an immortal God, Xeno had all the time in the world to plan...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some little scribble and story I managed to squeak out with not much thought about it. I have a bit of sympathy for Xeno, oddly enough. His ideals of what was good and just changed and grew over time, while the other gods basically believed Xeno had gone crazy. After he killed Thoth, Khnum, and Bast, then was banished out of an entire country he kinda DID go crazy. This is why you don't go and pretend to be better then your fellow Gods and try to raise an army against them to get your name written back in the books. History will just call you an asshole and toss you into a dungeon for eternity.
